AUTOBIOGRAPHY

THE NETHERLANDS

Also commonly known as Holland, this low country on the North Sea, got its name from being geographically located below sea level with a population of nearly16.5 million, Holland contains a colourful multicultural mix. They are a nation of traders due to its location on the economically important Northwestern corner of Europe.

As advocates of greater expansion and economic growth, they are also an Agricultural nation with large-scale exports of pedigree livestock, flower bulbs, dairy products, and green house produce. Because of abundant water supply and problems caused by water throughout its history, the Dutch have mastered the impoldering system and advanced in hydraulic engineering. Holland maintains an internationally oriented economy, and has aquired the reputation for reliability, diligence, and tolerance.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF HARM SCHUURMAN

Harm Schuurman, divorced (but now together with Fernanda),  holds residency in Portugal and has two children. Since April 2014 he is grandfather as well. Harm was born into a family of five in 1955. His parents owned a chicken hatchery, while his grandparents ran a restaurant business. His passion for karting started around the age of five, when he first encountered a hand-made wooden kart with a built-in motor. At age 11, his father bought him his first kart. Harm began racing at 12 years old.

From 1969-1974 he raced at the national level, winning many championships and gaining the 2nd place World Championship for juniors title in 1971. His father was the sole sponsor and mechanic, while Harm repaired his own engines since technicians were not always readily available. His parents’ involvement abruptly stopped in 1974; thus Harm ceased to race. Unwilling to give up his passion for motor-sports, he chose for a moto-cross career in 1974 and financed himself by repairing kart engines, selling used and new karts, and working odd jobs. In 1975, Harm Schuurman started his own retail and business. Advertising his products became necessary, and he returned to kart-racing in 1978. He sponsored and organized his own racing team. In that same year, he won ninth place in the World Championship! Having had much exposure to factory teams during the races, he became a factory driver for a Danish Company called "Dino". In 1979, Harm won 3rd place in the World Championship as a factory driver (the late famous Senna had won 2nd place)! He also raced for Dap (from 1980-1986), an Italian company, with world-renowned team-mates such as Senna, Modena and Zanardi. The factories advertised by taking their drivers around the world.

Thus, during the 80’s, Harm travelled around Asia and the Middle East, meanwhile increasing his own international business. Throughout those years, he won over 25 Grand Prix races in Southeast Asia, Australia, Dubai, Kuwait, as well as all the European countries. He finally stopped international racing in 1986 to devote to his business completely. A relationship also began with Cheng Shin Tire (maxxis) in 1986, using his own expertise in the development of karting tires at the Taiwanese factory. Cooperation with Cheng Shin (MAXXIS) turned out very succesfully. Millions of tires have been sold in Europe and the USA.
